It’s tough to leave the Himalaya and find yourself on the Indian plains. Yet for a photographer, there is so much of life lived in the open in India, that you can only be utterly energized by it.
The most popular post since I’ve been sharing photos was of an Indian rail journey. You can find it by following this link. https://nomadruss.me/2012/02/27/new-delhi-to-varanasi-on-the-swatantrata-s-express-train-no-12562/
While this post is perhaps not as epic, there was no perfectly framed window this time, it does give a glimpse into the life of India as seen from the rails. This was the last hour or two of an overnight train from Dehra Dun to Delhi. As you scroll through it, you’ll be taking the journey along with me.
I hope you like it, and if you do, please feel free to share this post or any others.
When your eyes are open, it’s amazing what you see.
India is endlessly fascinating.
I have taken the Shatabdi Express to and from Dehradun & Delhi many times! Some of my fondest memories from my times in India have been riding this very set of rails. I always think of the quote by Paul Theroux, “Ever since childhood, when I lived within earshot of the Boston and Maine, I have seldom heard a train go by and not wished I was on it.”
Cheers!

Amazing! Watching Bollywood movies, one can usually see only the highs of the India. It is fascinating to see the other part of it as well. Great photos!
Thanks so much, I definitely enjoy showing the real India.
Lovely set. Brings voices to my ears: “Chai, chai, chai, chai…”
I hear you! Chai, chai, garam chai. Chai, chai, coffee, chai…
